Music Notes for SeptemberI’m excited to be back at school to work with your children in music class. My goal is for each child to develop concepts and skills for a lifetime enjoyment of music. In each music class, the children sing, play instruments, dance, create, and listen to music by famous composers. As your child comes home from school on their music day, ask him or her to share some of the songs, poems and dances with you. Students in 4th and 5th graders typically have a short homework assignment each week. Encourage your child to have homework completed and ready to bring back to class. Our Taylor Mill Chorus will meet for the first time on Thursday, Sept. 3rd from 3:30-4:30. This is a non audition, voluntary ensemble. The Chorus will be singing on Tue. Sept 15th for the first PTA meeting of the year. I look forward to working with the chorus students each week. The forms for joining chorus were sent home this week in the take home folders. Return forms to homeroom teachers as soon as possible. Thank you for your support of the arts! Mrs. Swainhart TAYLOR MILL TECHNOLOGY All K-5 students have reviewed the procedures and expectations for Computer Lab. We have also completed an introductory lesson on Internet Safety at https://jr.brainpop.com/ Ask your child to share what he/she has learned and always encourage safe internet practices! All K-5 students will participate in MAP testing during the month of September. It is important that they do their best to meet current academic goals! As a reminder, please be sure your child has properly fitting headphones or ear buds. (Headphones are required for all K & 1st graders; 2nd-5th graders are required to have headphones OR earbuds.) More information and links to popular sites are on my webpage at http://karrieirons-bird.wix.com/tmtechnology We are looking forward to a fantastic year! Digital literacy is just a click away! Mrs. Irons-Bird We are beginning our year with learning how to use and control drawing materials. The students are starting with colored pencils and crayons. I will add markers and oil pastels to our drawing choices in the next week. Third through fifth grade students begin each class with a sketch book warm up that will train their eyes to see out patterns, lines, and shapes in objects. Kindergarten through second grade students will be experimenting with the different tools to create marks, patterns, and designs. The younger students also played "I Draw, You Draw" where they practice making different types of lines and shapes while following the teacher. This exercise enhances student observation and concentration skills. Students will be working toward creating a drawing that showcases their best drawing abilities by the end of September. I can't wait to see what they come up with in the art room!
Wow! What a great first day of school! Everyone seemed very excited to see old friends and meet new people! I had AMAZING classes in the art room. We are starting the year off by exploring drawing and learning that PRACTICE makes any skill stronger. I was glad to see most of the third through fourth graders brought their sketchbooks. I can't wait to see what creative ideas this year brings to my classroom. Let's make it a great year!
